For Immediate Release
FORT HOOD, Texas- The Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center Army Public Health Nursing team will host its annual influenza vaccination event for all TRICARE-eligible beneficiaries from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 14 in the hospital atrium.
The seasonal influenza vaccine will be available to eligible beneficiaries 6 months and older, including a high-dose option for those 65 and older.
The hospital is located at 590 Medical Center Road, Fort Hood, Texas 76544. Beneficiaries should bring a valid Department of Defense identification card.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends annual influenza vaccination for everyone 6 months of age and older who does not have a medical contraindication. Getting vaccinated each year is the best way to help prevent influenza and reduce the risk of serious illness, hospitalization and flu-related complications. Even people who contract influenza after vaccination may experience less severe illness.
Vaccination is particularly important for people at increased risk of developing serious flu-related complications. These groups include children younger than 5 years, adults 50 and older, pregnant women, adults 65 and older, residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities, and individuals with chronic medical conditions or weakened immune systems.
Although vaccination is ideally offered during September and October, the CDC recommends continuing vaccination throughout the influenza season while flu viruses are circulating and vaccine remains available. Beneficiaries who have not yet received their seasonal vaccine are encouraged to get vaccinated.
TRICARE-eligible beneficiaries may also receive their influenza vaccine at a TRICARE-authorized pharmacy or a network urgent care clinic. Beneficiaries should check with their preferred pharmacy before visiting to confirm vaccine availability, age requirements and any prescription requirements for children.
Parents seeking influenza vaccinations for young children should confirm eligibility with the pharmacy beforehand. Other options include contacting their primary care manager for guidance or visiting the CRDAMC pediatric clinic.
