FORT HOOD, Texas– The 3d Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, “Brave Rifles,” cased its colors Sept. 11, 2026, on Cameron Field at Fort Hood, Texas, in preparation for its upcoming deployment to the Republic of Korea.

Col. William B. Chastain, the 81st commander of the 3d Cavalry Regiment, and Command Sgt. Maj. Brian M. Michaud, regimental command sergeant major, participated in the casing of the regimental colors, marking the regiment’s transition from home-station operations to its upcoming deployment.

The casing of colors is a time-honored Army tradition symbolizing a unit’s transition from its home station to a deployed environment. During the ceremony, the organizational colors are furled and placed inside protective cases. Once the regiment arrives in the Republic of Korea and is prepared to assume its mission, the colors will be uncased.

The Department of the Army announced Aug. 24 that the 3d Cavalry Regiment will deploy to the Republic of Korea this fall to replace the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, as part of the regular rotation of forces.

“No one fights alone,” Chastain said. “We have our friends and family we leave behind, who support us from afar. We have our Korean allies, with whom we stand shoulder to shoulder. Most importantly we have each other; the Mounted Riflemen to your left and right.”

The deployment continues the Army’s rotational presence on the Korean Peninsula and supports the United States’ longstanding commitment to the Republic of Korea. During the rotation, Brave Rifle Troopers will train alongside U.S. and Republic of Korea forces while maintaining readiness and strengthening interoperability between the two nations.

The regiment last deployed to the Republic of Korea in 2024.
