FORT HOOD, Texas – The Fort Hood Directorate of Emergency Services continues to maintain the closure of West Range Road from Elijah Road to Old Georgetown Road until further notice due to ongoing wildland firefighting operations.
The Jack Mountain fire is approximately 900 acres and is now 75 percent contained with a second fire located west of West Range Road which is approximately 65 acres and is 90 percent contained.
Installation helicopter assets including a CH-47 Chinook and a UH-60 Black Hawk continue aerial water drops utilizing Bambi buckets, and specialized response teams remain actively engaged on the scene.
Due to the ongoing firefighting efforts and to ensure the safety of the community, all service members, civilian personnel and residents must avoid the affected areas immediately. Please plan alternate routes and do not attempt to bypass barricades or traffic control points. Keeping the area clear is critical to allowing emergency crews unimpeded access to the scene.
Fort Hood will continue to release information through the My Army Post App, Fort Hood Facebook and the Fort Hood Media Center as information becomes available.
