FORT HOOD, Texas – The 1st Cavalry Division Horse Cavalry Detachment will conduct a demonstration at 10 a.m. Jan. 29 to begin the unit’s regularly scheduled Thursday demonstrations and mark the first event of the 2026 calendar year.

Following the demonstration, media interested in speaking with Horse Cavalry Detachment leadership – Capt. Megan Korpiel, 1st Sgt. Kyle Minor, and troopers assigned to the detachment – will meet at the entrance of the Horse Cavalry Detachment building.

The demonstration showcases the 1st Cavalry Division Horse Cavalry Detachment performing mounted drills based on the historic 1883 Cavalry Tactics Manual. Troopers and horses execute precise formations that highlight the discipline and horsemanship of traditional U.S. Army cavalry. The event also features saber and revolver demonstrations that reflect the weapons training once used by mounted Soldiers. Visitors can watch the drills up close and see how the detachment preserves the heritage of the Army’s mounted forces.
